Mods (modifications) add new content, mechanics, and features to Minecraft beyond what plugins offer. Mods require either Forge or Fabric as your server engine.
Mods vs. Plugins
| Feature | Plugins | Mods |
|---|---|---|
| Server engine | Paper, Spigot, Purpur | Forge, Fabric |
| Client required? | No — players connect with vanilla client | Yes — players need the same mods installed |
| Content type | Server-side features (economy, permissions) | New blocks, items, dimensions, mechanics |
| Performance | Generally lighter | Can be heavier depending on mods |
Using the Mod Installer
Your panel has a built-in mod browser powered by Modrinth.
Go to the Engines tab and install Forge or Fabric for your Minecraft version. See the Change Version guide.
Click Mods in the sidebar. The mod browser will appear.
Search for mods by name. Click a mod to see its description, then click Install to download it to your mods folder.
Restart from the Console tab. Mods load during server startup.
Manual Installation
Get the .jar file from Modrinth or CurseForge. Make sure it matches your server’s engine (Forge or Fabric) and Minecraft version.
Go to Files, open the mods folder, and click Upload.
Restart the server for the mod to load.
